The School of Transportation Engineering of Chang'an University was formally established in December 2019 under the university’s overall strategic deployment of "utilizing discipline characteristics and integrating superior resources". The school Integrating the resources of transportation planning and management and traffic engineering related disciplines that originally belonged to the School of Highway, the School of Automobile and the School of Economics and Management. From the perspective of responding to the national development strategy, fitting the school's development positioning, and adapting to the development needs of the times, it is positioned as an international and innovative college with "world-class, Chinese characteristics".

According to the professional positioning and discipline construction needs, the school now has three majors: transportation engineering, transportation, and big data management and application. In terms of institutional settings, the school has "four departments and six institutes". Four professional departments consist of the Department of Transportation Engineering, the Department of Rail Transit and Civil Aviation Engineering, the Department of Transportation, and the Department of Big Data Management and Application; the six institutes are:Institute of Integrated Transportation System Analysis, Institute of Transportation Planning and Design, institution of Transportation System Organization and Control, Institute for Transportation Safety and Environment, Institute of Rail Transit and Civil Aviation Transportation Engineering, Institute of Big Transportation Data and Artificial Intelligence. At the same time, the school also has"Discipline Innovation and Talent Introduction Base for Sustainable Development of Transportation in Western Urban Agglomeration", "International Joint Research Center for Digital Construction and Management for Transportation Infrastructure along the “Belt and Road”, Xi’an, Shaanxi, China","Engineering Research Center of Highway Infrastructure Digitalization, Ministry of Education,, Xi’an, Shaanxi, China", "Key Laboratory of Transport Industry of Management, Control and Cycle Repair Technology for Traffic Network Facilities in Ecological Security Barrier AreaChang’an University", "Research Center of Digital Construction and Management for Transportation Infrastructure of Shaanxi Province, Xi’an, Shaanxi, China", "Xi'an Key Laboratory of Digital Construction and Management for Transportation Infrastructure, Xi’an, Shaanxi, China", and other specialized subject platforms and scientific research institutions.

In terms of talent team, the school currently has 94 faculty members, nearly 2,000 undergraduates and 600 postgraduates. The teachers of the school are all professional teachers engaged in teaching and research in the fields of transportation, traffic engineering, and traffic data science. Among them, there are 22 professors, 20 associate professors, 39 lecturers, 4 engineers and 1 assistant engineer. In addition, the school has obvious advantages in high-end talents and teams. As an important scientific research force dedicated to promoting the development of China's transportation field for a long time, most teachers have foreign high-level university degrees or visiting experience, have a broad international vision, and have excellent talents from the Ministry of Education. There are many outstanding talents and leading figures in the industryThe professional structure, title structure, and age structure of the faculty are reasonably matched, which has laid a good talent foundation for the development of the school.

In terms of specialty construction, the major transportation and transportation engineering have a long history, outstanding characteristics, and remarkable social influence. Those majors have achieved fruitful results after years of accumulation. At present, the two majors are both national characteristic majors, national first-class construction majors, and have passed the certification of engineering education majors. The school have many high-quality curriculums such as the national bilingual teaching model courses, Shaanxi Province elite courses and first-class courses. Also, the school has many special training modes such as traffic engineering bilingual program, transportation engineering excellence program and so on. As well as several national teaching teams, the Ministry of Education model teaching team, Shaanxi Province teaching team and other professional faculty. At the same time, the school has established a new major "Big Data Management and Application" to realize the organic integration of emerging technologies such as data science, big data, artificial intelligence, with the transportation field in order to promote the improvement of scientific research method and level. In the future, the school will continuously promote scientific research and talent cultivation on important issues, key technologies, and industrial applications in the field of integrated transportation from the standpoint of "responding to the needs of the industry and exploring the frontiers of academic disciplines".

In terms of discipline construction, transportation planning and management discipline and transportation engineering discipline are the earliest and strongest disciplines established in our university, they are also the key base for scientific research and talent cultivation in the field of transportation in China, among which, transportation planning and management is also one of the main discipline directions for "double first-class" construction in our university. At present, the transportation planning and management second-level discipline has the authority to grant doctoral degree and master's degree, and the transportation engineering first-level discipline has a post-doctoral flow station. The school mainly has eight professional research directions such as integrated transportation and multi-modal transportation integration, intelligent transportation system and technology, urban traffic control and governance, traffic safety theory and technology, sustainable transportation and resilient transportation, transportation big data analysis and application, transportation infrastructure digitalization, new transportation organization and management.

In terms of foreign exchange, the school established various forms of bilateral exchange and cooperation with many famous universities and research institutions in the United States, Britain, Germany, Japan, Australia, etc. in order to adapt to the development trend of internationalization of higher education. Significant achievements have been made in terms of student exchange, cooperative research, and high-level talents introduction. Including the establishment of a joint research center, the "3 + 1 + 1" Chinese and foreign joint training program, the "1 + 1 + 1" Chinese and American joint training masters, and the international exchange of CSC outstanding undergraduate students, which effectively promoted the overall level of the academy and provided important platform for scientific research communication and cooperation.

In the future, the School of Transportation Engineering will adhere to the development concept of "strengthening and innovation" highlighting characteristics, focusing on the future, and closely matching the national key development needs of the "transportation power" and the "Belt and Road" with industry development strategies, facing the main battlefield of the industry, and focusing on improving the scientific research and teaching level of the main superior disciplines in the comprehensive transportation field, promote interdisciplinary and knowledge innovation with an open and inclusive attitude, make breakthroughs in basic theoretical research and platform construction, and form a "specialized and hierarchical" discipline feature. Become an innovation zone for scientific research in the forefront of transportation, a new base for training international-level talents, establish the school’s leading position in the field of transportation, and make improvements in scientific research, talent training, social services, cultural heritage and international exchanges.
